Stephanie J. Tobin

My early research focused on how contextual cues and uncertainty influence social judgments, but in the past six years, my interests have shifted toward the psychology of social media use. My current research focuses on the behaviours, motivations, and experiences on social networking sites that facilitate positive outcomes such as a sense of belonging and well-being, and those that put people at risk for negative outcomes such as disconnection, envy, and addiction. Other areas of interest include attitudes, loneliness, and control.

Primary Interests:

  • Emotion, Mood, Affect
  • Internet and Virtual Psychology
  • Interpersonal Processes
